Deconstructing the Shadow: The Coaching Session that Changed My Life

download (1)

For over a decade, I have facilitated communication and leadership workshops for various sectors and organizations.  I have also attended a good number of  workshops and seminars, not to mention graduate programs so I can be updated on the latest research findings and training techniques.

As a trainer,  one motivation is to consistently give the best lessons and ideas to my trainees, and this is possible through constant reading of relevant literature and the latest research-based publications. Having done all these, I thought there was nothing more that would surprise me with regard new lessons.  I just knew that new lessons will have to keep happening, and as they do I have to be ready so I may know more than what I am supposed to teach.

And it did happen during TalkShop’s Coaching for Top Management.  The name itself is one of a kind: Deconstructing the Shadow. I knew from my studies and readings that the shadow is that part of us that we usually do not know or know but tend to evade.  I also know that it will keep resurfacing on occasions that trigger certain unresolved feelings that we are strongly connected to.  And I know that healing or stopping the shadow happens once we acknowledge it and shed light upon it.

coachingSo what then will I still learn on this new seminar that is supposed to coach me to deconstruct my shadow?  Much to my surprise, it taught me so much.  It made me more self-aware than the self-aware person I usually claim to be.  Unlike many other coaching sessions that teach HOW one will move forward, the TalkShop Coaching enlightened me on whether I am really moving forward and how I can better examine my life.  TalkShop taught me WHY I am the way I am and why I do the things I do by making me discover the “accidental truths” that I have built on my notion of who I am.

I have never been so impressed!

There were, of course, phases in the coaching sessions when I felt like backing out because it is always tough to come face to face with one’s shadow.  Even worse when you understand that you are the shadow creator and no matter how much others have contributed, you have always been the one deciding on the forms your shadow will take.

I hope leaders of various organizations will get the chance to organize TalkShop’s Coaching experience for themselves and their teams.  Applying band-aid solutions can be very costly, not to mention ineffective. It happens when the real issues are not addressed because they are not known to the person himself.  There are concepts, and theories, and principles.  But until one becomes aware of who he truly is, he will usually be second guessing which one application works best on any moment, for himself and his team.  Among all the leadership programs and coaching sessions I have attended, I can say that TalkShop’s is the one that truly changed my life.  I am so thankful for this blessing of intelligent self-awareness that will benefit me and everyone I work with. I hope you and your leaders get the same opportunity.
