Healthy Lifestyle amidst the Global Lockdown

Just a few weeks ago, we had the liberty to go anywhere we fancy, meet up with whoever we miss, do whatever we enjoy. Those times we had all freedom and creativity to choose and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Today the harsh truth: within the confines of our space and the limitations of our situation, for the sake of everyone we love and everything we value, we must all the more, by all means possible, continue living a healthy lifestyle.

Every day that we take for granted what we can do better or, sometimes, differently, with regard our physical health, mental well-being, and overall sense of happiness, is another day wasted.

Thankfully for those who are just now making the transition, healthy lifestyle considerations have not changed. They do not even entail giant steps. But they have always required resolute and consistent action.

Sharing some questions for your reflection and, hopefully, immediate attention:

  1. Do I avoid excess sugar?
  2. Do I avoid excess fat?
  3. Do I avoid excess salt?
  4. Do I eat more vegetables than meat?
  5. Do I make sure I get enough fiber and vitamins?
  6. Do I avoid alcoholic drinks or at least minimize my intake?
  7. Do I refrain from smoking and keep distance from those who do?
  8. Do I keep my weight within the normal range?
  9. Do I sleep sufficiently at a regular schedule?
  10. Do I exercise and stretch regularly?
  11. Do I make it a point to learn new things?
  12. Do I motivate myself to realize my plans?
  13. Do I focus on the task at hand?
  14. Do I balance my budget and spend within my means?
  15. Do I manage my schedule to be able to enjoy me-time on personal activities?
  16. Do I practice thankfulness to feel good about myself and my life?
  17. Do I have a committed, monogamous relationship?
  18. Do I keep myself from saying or doing anything that may cause more harm than good?
  19. Do I channel my energy on things that will add value to my perspectives?
  20. Do I maintain a positive and harmonious relationship with my loved ones?

Embracing a healthy lifestyle is imperative if we intend to breeze through this unprecedented episode in our history and ready ourselves for the next phase. The sensible choice is to muster the discipline to manage our daily routine, start working out, quit bad habits, and just aim to feel better.  Any of that or be defeated by the logistics of Covid-19.

Then and now, against all odds, the decision remains with us to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.
