How to Build Self-Confidence to Help You Shine In Every Situation

TalkShop confidence building tipsSelf-confidence is the winning quality that interviewers look for and the attribute that singles out the person for the much-contested promotion. It is intangible, yet palpable in the way one carries himself. It springs from a healthy dose of self-esteem, a strong support system, and an exposure to constant practice.

Sheila Viesca, TalkShop CEO affirms, “Yes, confidence can be learned. Not everyone is naturally self-assured. For instance, it is normal for people to feel tense just before giving a speech. Thankfully, there are ways to handle stage fright to be able to deliver successfully. With practice, one gets better. Though one has to contend with nerves at the next turn, these can be managed with the right techniques.

How does one build and project confidence? Viesca counts the ways:

1. Look sharp – Take a shower daily, observe good hygiene and proper grooming. Dress well. Make a wise choice to buy quality over quantity. Simply knowing that you look good can boost your confidence.

2. Walk briskly – Confident people are spirited and purposeful.

3. Adopt good posture – Stand and sit straight, chin up, make eye contact, and smile.

4. Stay fit. Walking briskly for 30 minutes as often as you can does wonders in keeping you energized, looking and feeling good.

5. Breathe deeply – This reduces anxiety as it increases alertness and lowers blood pressure.

6. Think positive – Recall past successes, your strengths and skills, and blessings (family, friends, good health, etc.)

7. Compliment others. Be open and genuine with your praise. Bringing out the best in others will bring out the good in you as well.

8. Share. Veer away from being self-centered. Helping others has its own rewards.
