The Need for Strategic Planning in Team Building Activities

STRATEGIC PLANNING is a process that looks into the future to identify challenges, trends and issues that can materially affect the work of an organization.  The process seeks to define and understand the key beneficiaries or clients of the organization, their needs, and the most effective ways to fulfill the organization’s mandate with their interest in mind.
STRATEGIC PLANNING is best incorporated in team building activities where the organization reconciles responsibilities with resources and set priorities. Important links among stakeholders are identified and decided during the process of team building.  These links allow all stakeholders to collaborate on a good strategy towards the accomplishment of goals. A good strategy drives focus, accountability, and results. To do this, strategic plans must integrate the budgeting process and operational plans.

At an individual level, it may also be useful to adopt the strategic planning tools and technique to one’s job.  When strategic planning is merged with team building activities, employees are enabled to understand each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and interests.  Teams and departments end up becoming stronger, and work even better together.
Strong team work facilitates better communication, promotes creativity, enhances motivation and strengthens problem-solving capabilities of the organization. Undoubtedly, as teams are strengthened, the execution of an organization’s strategic plan is also intensified.
