Time and Stress Management in the Workplace

TalkShop time and stress managementToday’s world requires workers to do a juggling act. Employees have to be multi-taskers just to keep up. With so many tasks to finish in a day, it can be daunting for many whose resources are not up to par with the demands of the situation. Sheila Viesca, TalkShop CEO explains, “In stressful situations, what matters is not the scenario but how one perceives it. It is best to be in control of the situation.

Viesca shares this helpful guide to handle stress better:

1. Start the day by thinking positive. Frame your outlook to set emotions in a balance.
2. Set out to accomplish the most complicated task first, and get it out of the way.
3. Identify stressful moments, shift your mind set, and take action. Avoid “fight or flight” reactions that do more harm than good. Avoid saying hurtful words to colleagues or your boss. Blowing off steam can be as simple as taking a walk around the block, taking deep breaths, taking a break and savoring a cup of coffee, listening to music.
4. Learn the art of assertive communication. Don’t let anger simmer. Assertive communication allows one to effectively communicate to effectively address concerns at work or at home.
5. Adopt a problem-solving style to cope with complicated work. Break it down into parts.
6. Use humor. Share a joke or funny story to lighten the mood.
7. Stay healthy to be able to cope with the rigors of your job. Do away with smoking or drinking to excess.
8. Dwell on what’s positive about your work. Stressful moments need not require drastic decisions on your part. Learn to take disagreements in stride.
