At TalkShop, we offer a 3-day program to get aspiring and seasoned writers in the right frame of mind as they achieve their goals and advance in their career.

Viesca offers the following tips to be able to write creatively:

1. Use stream of consciousness technique. Write down whatever comes to mind. In this case, you scribbling does not have to make sense. The objective here is not to establish coherence, but to clear the mind from clutter to pave the way for creativity.

3. Heighten your experiences. Be keen as you observe people, places, and events. Appreciate everything around you and be mindful of how they affect you on a day to day basis.

4. Write with color. Use the power of details to let your readers see the picture and feel the story. For instance, instead of “candy,” write “a long cane of peppermint striped in red and green.”

5. Use adverbs to a minimum. They assist weak verbs and must be replaced with the use of strong verbs. Be precise.

6. Expand your vocabulary. Learn new words and use them.

7. Don’t be long-winded. The simpler the better, the shorter the better.

8. Polish your skills with daily exercises. Write and re-write your article and essay. Do your research and learn to synthesize to be able to put your own spin to your writing.

9. Reveal, not tell. Appeal to the senses – sight, smell, taste, feeling, and action. By showing, you allow readers to interpret.

10. Enjoy the moment. Don’t strain or worry in case of writer’s block, which is temporary.

Discover and polish your writing style. Express yourself and share your love of writing.
