\"viewImage\"<\/a>There are as many types of \u00a0speeches as there are reasons for writing them. \u00a0Some will make you laugh. Others will prod you to action. \u00a0A good number will make you reflect. I hear speeches on a regular basis. \u00a0I have trained speakers and learned many pointers along the way. My experience as a trainer and speaker has made me more adept at crafting the right speech. However, it is my experience as a listener that has led me to a better understanding of the secrets that make even the simplest speeches great.<\/p>\n

First is your connected-ness to your listeners. You should be able to identify your audience at the onset. \u00a0When their concerns and position matter to you, you will be able to convey a message that is meaningful to them. \u00a0That is when your speech becomes substantial, and you truly connect.<\/p>\n

TAKE NOTE: Failure to consider WHO your listeners are may \u00a0keep you from employing the right tone, the right stance, and even the right message.<\/p>\n

Second and just as important is clarity of purpose. \u00a0Your reason for writing and delivering a speech does not matter as much as the clarity of that reason in your heart and your mind. \u00a0When you know what you are going to share, your mind will guide you to choose the most appropriate expressions while your heart will glue your ideas so they make sense to you and to your listeners.<\/p>\n

TAKE NOTE: Do not bother coming up with some smart-sounding lines unless you have first identified WHY you are delivering your speech. \u00a0 Your ideas should be so clear to you that you can articulate them even in the absence of adages or quotes.<\/p>\n

Third is coherence of thought. \u00a0 Stick to a theme and integrate relevant details that are manageable and interesting. Do not cram all the stories and details you can think of into one speech. \u00a0Coherence requires that you identify WHAT \u00a0dimension of yourself \u00a0and aspect of your subject will be delivered at any given time.<\/p>\n

The rule of thumb: If you are confused which title to assign to your speech, it is time to trim the details.<\/p>\n

Remember these tips in the order they are given: \u00a0WHO, WHY, WHAT. \u00a0It cannot be the other way around. \u00a0Have fun in delivering your next speech. \u00a0I am sure it will be great!<\/p>\n
