How do You Listen?
Listening is mostly taken for granted. In the course of a busy day, managers and workers talk in a hurry, listen passively, and pore over tasks cursorily to get the work done.
Sheila Viesca, TalkShop CEO, notes, “The result often backfires with communication buckling down since no one took the time to listen. Listening does require making the effort, not only to hear the words, but to understand, taking into consideration the context.”
A good leader knows that listening is the best way to win over his team. He asks questions to get information, to win their respect, connect and build the relationship.
Viesca sums up, “Show your people that you value them by making time to listen and understand their needs. This practice makes for an inspired, motivated team that will commit to your leadership. ”
